Planning a marquee event is a bit like building a temporary luxury venue from scratch. It’s exciting, creative, and offers a blank canvas to bring any vision to life. However, because a marquee is a temporary structure, it doesn't come with the built-in infrastructure of a traditional venue.

1. Slopes and uneven sites
A lawn might look flat enough to the naked eye but even a gentle, seemingly harmless slope can cause major structural and aesthetic issues once a marquee is erected. Tables might wobble, glasses could slide, and granny’s wheelchair…can you imagine!
The fix: Precise measuring and surveying
We don't guess or leave it up to chance, we measure. During our initial site inspection, we often use our Moasure device which instantly calculates area, perimeter and elevation.
By understanding the rise and fall of the ground, we can determine which type of flooring or levelling equipment is required to create a perfectly flat, solid foundation for your event.
2. Drainage during adverse weather
If your marquee is on a slope, water runoff is a massive factor to consider. In the event of heavy rain, water will naturally flow downhill. Without proper planning, a beautiful marquee can quickly become a channel for mud and water, threatening your interior, your catering area, and most importantly, your guests' footwear.
The fix: Strategic ‘Wet Weather’ planning
Prevention starts long before the weather starts. In the first instance we can ask our clients if the site has a history of flooding or becoming waterlogged and have a PLAN B for marquee location. Where possible, we try to position the marquee on higher ground.
In the event the site cannot be avoided. We employ proactive solutions, which may include:
- Installing raised, boarded flooring systems that keep guests and suppliers well above the damp ground
- Positioning structures with large roof areas in a way that encourages run off away from the guest areas
- Install temporary tracking for vehicles and raised walkways for guests
- Consider separate access routes for guests and suppliers
- Install entrance canopies to reduce mud in heavy traffic areas
3. Power distribution
A common misconception is that you can run a high-end caterer, a 10-piece band, production lighting, and luxury toilets off a few household outdoor sockets. But doing so is a fast track to tripped fuses, dark rooms, and silent speakers.
The fix: Tailored event power distribution
We treat power as a critical infrastructure project. We understand the exact wattage and amperage draw required by every single supplier, from the band's amplifiers to the caterer's ovens.

4. Back-of-house space for catering & crew

The fix: Fulfilling crucial catering marquee requirements

- Adequate square footage: Giving chefs and waiting staff plenty of room to prep, plate, and clear without bottlenecking
- Direct access: Positioning the catering tent close to the main dining area (ideally hidden behind a screen or catering partition) to keep food hot and service fast
- Utility integration: Providing dedicated, high-capacity power feeds and catering-grade flooring that can withstand heavy traffic and spills
- Outmess areas: Dedicated space for your suppliers to rest, replenish and shelter in during events
5. The late-night chill
When planning a spring, autumn, or even an early summer wedding, it’s easy to focus on daytime comfort. However, once the sun sets, temperatures inside a canvas structure can drop rapidly. Guests in formalwear will notice the chill long before the party ends, which can completely shift the energy of the evening.
The fix: Thermostatically controlled climate systems
Although we do offer direct heaters, we also offer integrated indirect, thermostatically controlled marquee heaters.
These units sit discreetly outside the structure and pump warm, filtered air through subtle vents. This creates an even, ambient temperature throughout the entire space to keep guests comfortable from the first toast to the final dance.
6. Supplier access paths
A marquee doesn't just appear overnight. It requires heavy vehicles, forklifts, and crew vans to transport tonnes of equipment onto site. If the access route is too narrow, has low-hanging branches, or involves soft ground, delivery trucks can get stuck or damage an estate's pristine lawns.
The fix: Advanced route mapping & ground protection

If the ground is soft, we can lay down temporary trackway to protect the turf and prevent vehicles from sinking.
