Why Has OM Asked Me to Fill Out and Sign a Permit to Work Form?

As part of our process, we arrange a site visit at the earliest opportunity. This is important for understanding the layout, dimensions, and any unique features of your proposed site. However, there's one critical consideration that can't be tested during a site visit – what's underground.

Why Underground Services Matter

  • Underground services include electricity, gas, water, and drainage
  • Our marquee stakes go in one metre below the ground and will circle the marquee
  • Metal marquee pins striking electricity wires could have deadly consequences
  • Hitting water, drainage, or electric lines can be expensive and messy to fix – not what you need in the build up to your event!

Health & Safety Obligations

  • As a responsible employer, we take our obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act very seriously
  • As our client, you also have obligations under the Act to provide our workers with a safe environment whilst they are on your site
  • The permit to work form helps us both fulfil these legal requirements

What We Need From You

  • If you know where services are: Provide details, ideally in the form of a site plan, so we can accurately locate them
  • If you're unsure: We advise arranging a formal underground utility survey or obtaining advice from the service company concerned
  • We can avoid areas of concern and bring shorter stakes where required, but we need to understand what's beneath the surface

Recommended resource: We recommend using the Line Search Before U Dig website (lsbud.co.uk) to enquire with multiple national utility services at once. Please note this won't cover any private works carried out in the area.

Before Work Can Begin

  • We require a signed copy of the permit to work form
  • Any accompanying documentation where applicable (e.g. site plans showing underground services)
  • Work cannot commence onsite until we have received these
