Gripple Wire Specifications

Wire thickness: 2mm

Typical height: 3.5 – 4m

Position: Between king poles or king poles to wall poles

Suitable for: Lightweight decorations only

Configuration Options

Between King Poles

The standard configuration – gripple wires strung horizontally between the king poles, usually around 3.5 – 4m high. Perfect for creating a line of hanging decorations running through the centre of the marquee.

Cascading Canopy Effect

We can also position the gripple wires to cascade down from the king poles to the wall poles, creating a beautiful hanging canopy effect. This creates a more dramatic, enveloping feel to the space.

Important: Dressing from a Ladder

Unlike flower rings and flower ladders, gripple wires cannot be lowered to floor level. They need to be hung in position before they can be dressed, which means your florist will need to dress them from a ladder. Florists must provide their own equipment to dress the marquee and will need to provide their own ladders if they are required.

Please note: Florists must provide their own ladders and equipment. We do not supply ladders for dressing the gripple wires. Please ensure your florist is aware of this and comes prepared.

What to Hang on Gripple Wires

  • Light foliage – Trailing greenery such as eucalyptus, ivy, or ferns
  • Pompoms – Paper or fabric pompoms in your wedding colours
  • Paper lanterns – Lightweight paper lanterns for a whimsical touch
  • Ribbons – Trailing ribbons or fabric strips
  • Origami – Paper cranes or other lightweight origami decorations
  • Dried flowers – Lightweight dried flower bunches
  • Bunting – Fabric or paper bunting
Weight reminder: Gripple wires are designed for lightweight decorations only. Heavy items such as large floral arrangements, glass bottles, or anything with significant weight should not be hung from the gripple wires. For heavier items, consider using our flower rings or flower ladders instead.

Tips for Your Florist

  • Bring ladders – Florists must provide their own ladders to dress the wires
  • Keep it light – Only lightweight decorations should be used
  • Plan the design – Consider how the decorations will look from below
  • Allow extra time – Working from a ladder takes longer than dressing at floor level
  • Safety first – Ensure ladders are stable and someone is spotting at all times
  • Spacing – Plan the spacing of decorations before starting to ensure an even look

Attachment Methods

  • Cable ties – Quick and secure way to attach items to the wire
  • String or twine – Tie decorations directly to the wire
  • S-hooks – Small hooks that clip over the wire for hanging items
  • Florist wire – Wrap around the gripple wire to secure lightweight items
