What Do I Need to Know About Generators?

We sub-contract our generators from external companies. They run on white diesel and can provide enough power to supply all the electrical requirements inside the marquee and utility areas. Here's everything you need to know.

What's Included

  • Generator hire from our trusted suppliers that we use every weekend
  • Distribution included: All cables, distro boxes, and plug outlets required by your suppliers
  • 18 hours of fuel included within the hire cost
  • You will be shown how to use the generator during the handover

Power Requirements Form

  • We will need to know your suppliers' individual requirements in detail
  • The type of plug on each piece of equipment being brought to site
  • The power demand of each piece of equipment
  • We will ask you to collate this together with your suppliers on our Power Requirements form ahead of your event

Avoiding Problems

  • We very rarely encounter problems with our generators
  • One of the main causes of tripping is overloading, particularly in catering tents
  • All plugs in the catering tent as standard will be on a 32amp supply
  • Each event and menu is different, so it's important we adequately distribute power to ensure nothing is overloaded
  • We ask that you check with your suppliers that all equipment is PAT tested regularly and in good condition

Don't worry! All suppliers offer a 24/7 number to call in case of an emergency. A member of staff can usually be onsite within 2 hours, but will normally identify the problem remotely. A member of the Original Marquees team is also on call – if anything happens, we will sort it!

Fuel & Multi-Day Events

  • 18 hours of fuel is included as standard
  • If you go over this, or are holding a second day event, don't worry – it won't stop working
  • There is enough fuel in the tank to cover your entire event
  • The suppliers will send a bill following the event for any additional fuel used

Remote Areas & Toilets

  • Where toilet units or ceremony/drinks areas are away from the marquee and power is required, we may ask about an alternative source
  • This could be mains power or battery alternatives
  • This avoids cable trip hazards and works around cabling length limitations

Optional Extras

  • Back-up generator: Available for peace of mind, or if your location warrants a back-up plan due to distance in a call-out situation

Please note: Where you decide not to use our generator supplier, or if you decide to power the event from a mains source (3-phase etc), we cannot be held responsible for any electrical problems should they arise.
