COVID Schools

COVID Schools

In a normal year, our Summers are normally spent creating spaces for special occasions. Then came 2020. At the beginning of March, were incredibly excited to dust off the woodwork and load up the trailers for the first time – but day by day, this was looking less and less likely. In turn we were learning very quickly how a small business manages a global pandemic – making every effort to rearrange weddings, in-house commitments, staff and running through every scenario that we may face.

By the end of April – as difficult as it was & no more so than for all of our wonderful couples – we had come to terms with the future, put our plans in place, and were ready to make the most of the situation we found ourselves in.

So, what to do…  two sheds full of marquees, we have stacks of time, and a want to be putting marquees up!

Before COVID even existed, Alex’s brother, whilst training to be an Architect, created schematics of our marquees for a job we did in Italy. Two years later, these plans were used by CLTH whilst designing a concept to help schools manage social distancing and crucial education.

A couple of weeks after this was published, a story that was picked up by The Telegraph, Dezeen, The Sun, The East London Advertiser, followed quickly by the first request for a marquee – to which we were thrilled!

The marquee was up for 4 weeks at Manorfield Primary School, in Tower Hamlets, London, and featured far and wide in the press – including The Telegraph, The Times, Archilovers, BD Online, and the Teaching Times.

The following week, we went to Fortismere School, which was the first time our canvas sailcloth marquees went out in 2020 – and managed to feature on Sky News
